2011-2012 SEASON TICKETS ON SALE NOW

Theatre A La Carte’s twenty-third season includes two contemporary musicals you won’t want to miss. And as a season subscriber, you can book your seats now, months before tickets go on sale to the general public. The season opens in October with Xanadu, an affectionate send-up of the 1980 cult classic movie, and continues in July with Aida, Elton John and Tim Rice’s take on the epic legend. Season subscriptions are on sale now, and can be purchased by mailing in the enclosed order form, or visiting www.theatrealacarte.org. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation by purchasing a subscription at one of the donor levels. With grant funds disappearing, now more than ever we depend on contributions from you, our patrons.

SUPPORT THEATRE A LA CARTE BY HOSTING A DINNER WITH FRIENDS

Over the next few months, Theatre A La Carte is holding a special fundraising event – Dinner with Friends. This is an opportunity to support Theatre A La Carte, bring family and friends together, and have a fun evening. This is how it works: Select a date between June and November 2011, then choose a theme. The theme can be anything you like, such as a barbeque, a casino or movie night, bowling or sports event, game night, or a luau. Invite 10 – 20 of your friends and family. Guests pay $25 to attend the event and you, the host, provide the food, drink, and supplies. Dinner with Friends can be a simple picnic at a local park or an extravagant cocktail party. It’s all up to you. All proceeds support Theatre A La Carte, and since Theatre A La Carte is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, your expenses for the event are tax-deductible. Someone once said, "A toast to the Cocktail Party - where olives are speared and friends are stabbed." Please no stabbing! Just great times, great friends, and a chance to help your musical theatre company bring great shows to the stage. To sign up, contact Eric Hurst at (850) 385-6700 or eric.hurst@gmail.com.

BUY A KEY, AND HELP US REPLACE OUR ELECTRIC PIANO

After providing faithful accompaniment for rehearsals and performances for the past sixteen years, our electric piano must be replaced. It has served us well, but nothing lasts forever. However, this is not a regular operating expense, so we need your help. Your $50 tax-deductible donation buys a key. Buy one or more! For each key you buy, your name will be added to a key on our temporary display until all the money is raised, and then placed on the permanent commemorative plaque when all 88 keys are purchased. Donations can be made online via PayPal at www.theatrealacarte.org, or mailed to Theatre A La Carte, 1516 Copperfield Circle, Tallahassee, FL, 32312. We can’t do musicals without music, so please help us reach our goal.

GREEK MUSES AND ROLLER DISCO LAUNCH NEW SEASON

A beautiful Greek muse, Kira, descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time — the first roller disco! But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage, and chaos abounds. This hilarious, roller skating, musical adventure about following your dreams despite the limitations others set for you, rolls along to the original hit score that includes "Magic", "All Over The World", "Suddenly", "I'm Alive", "Evil Woman" and "Have You Never Been Mellow,” and is based on the cult classic movie of the same title, which starred Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly. It's hilarity on wheels for adults, children and anyone who has ever wanted to feel inspired. Auditions for Xanadu will be held Friday, August 26, at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 27, at 2:00 p.m. at The Dance Studio, 1690 Raymond Diehl Road, in the Osaka Plaza. Please prepare a song of any type and bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided. Recorded accompaniment or a capella singing are not preferred. Wear appropriate dance attire and shoes. Several roles require rollerskating; please bring skates (traditional or inline) if you have them. Tap dancers bring tap shoes. There are roles for 3 men (teens-30s), 1 man (40s-60s), 3 women (teens-30s) and 2 women (30s-50s). Those interested in backstage positions are also invited to attend. If you need additional information, call director Eric Hurst at (850) 385-6700, or visit www.theatrealacarte.org. Performances of Xanadu will be held October 7-9 and 14-16 at the Tallahassee Little Theatre, 1861 Thomasville Road at the corner of Betton Road. Evening performances on October 7, 8, 14 and 15 are at 8:00 p.m., with 2:00 p.m. matinees on October 9 and 16. Tickets are $18.00, students and seniors $16.00. Tickets may be purchased in person, by telephone, or online at www.theatrealacarte.org. Regular Box Office hours are 4:00-7:00 p.m. beginning Friday, September 30.
